Had a get together Saturday afternoon for my mates 60th in the main bar. Great atmosphere fabulous position right in the middle of the high street. Service at the bar was quick and efficient and although very busy plenty of areas to sit or stand and have conversation
Stayed for 2 weeks on a business trip and it’s been excellent! The service at the reception to the restaurant and bar staff is great! Food is nice and has a nice variety of drinks! The rooms are decent with the odd thing but besides that really nice rooms! I’ve got to say though, because of the location it can get pretty noisy outside but there’s nothing you can do about that!
Family meal on Saturday 20th December. The food was delicious overall, the service was friendly and efficient and there was a great atmosphere in the restaurant and bar area with a singer and guitarist in the evening which added to the Christmas ambience. Stayed in the hotel in a twin room, which was small but had everything you would need. Could hear the hotel bar noise from the room but I think it was that time of year.
First visit to the George coffee shop. Lovely space to relax with friends today with Christmas decorations. Comfy clean sofas. Brilliant and just what I like. Coffee was nice. I think the serving girls and ladies could smile a bit more which would add to the ambiance. Also noted a nice couple who had their well behaved Dachshund with them were asked to leave because of a no dog policy. I felt sorry for them as the dog was lovely and only enhanced the nice atmosphere. Certainly posing no hygiene risk. Come on George Hotel, get with it. We'll behaved dogs are not a problem. Why turn business away?
I visited just their pub/restaurant which was nice. Portions were generous the reasonably priced. Food was tasty and I really appreciated how careful they were putting together a pasta dish for my toddler, with peas and corn and extra Parmesan cheese on the side. The scones were delicious. Staff was underpaid, or at least that’s how they behaved. Not very motivated to make you feel welcome. But then again, we visited from the US so service in the UK is typically less worthy of praise by comparison.
We stayed here Friday just gone. We had a really wonderful stay. The staff were the friendliest staff I have ever encountered at any hotel and very welcoming and helpful. The food was lovely and the room was beautiful too and very clean. Overall very happy and will absolutely be coming to stay again. Thank you
We attended the NYE dinner/party at the George last night which was lovely! We love the hotel to eat/drink/stay normally but the NYE party was extra good. The dinner was beautifully thought out and presented - the flavours were amazing! The package with the dinner/party/stayover/breakfast was very good value and we all really enjoyed the whole thing. Many thanks to the lovely attentive staff, chef and Remi Knight who was our very helpful contact for organizing our stay. We'd definitely do the whole thing again!
Really good menu in the bar. Rooms ok really cold when arrived but did warm up after an hour. Pay and display behind £12 per night
